Although the novel Corona virus-19 may have had its origin from an animal source as per the available limited research, but mainly the spread of COVID-19 is through human to human as per OIE (World Organization for Animal health). Poultry has not been involved in transmission of COVID-19 to humans so far in any report globally. Similarly, other viral outbreaks in the past, such as SARS (2002-03), MERS (2012-13) and Corona associated common cold had NO involvement of poultry or poultry products.
Hence, Government of India, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal husbandry & Dairy announced that the consumption of poultry and poultry products may be considered safe. However general hygiene guidelines should be followed as suggested by WHO/OIE.
