Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Second Amendment Regulations, 2020

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India made the following regulations to amend the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011.

The regulations are in force since 9th July 2020 & FBO will need to comply with all the provisions of these regulations by 1st July, 2021.

The revision is as follows.

In the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Regulations, 2011, in regulation 2.4 relating to “CEREALS AND CEREAL PRODUCTS, the following sub-regulations will be inserted.

  • 2.4.29. Wheat bran
    • This sub-regulation defines the product. Also, the standards regarding parameters – moisture, crude protein on dry basis, crude fibre, acid insoluble ash on dry basis and acid value, of the product have been depicted here.
  • 2.4.30. Non-fermented soybean products
    • Under this sub-regulation, is given the definition for non-fermented soybean products. This includes sub-clause on the following products:
  • Soybean beverages & related products: This describes plain soybean beverage, composite or mixed or flavoured soybean beverages & soybean-based beverages.
  • Soybean curd and related products: This describes semisolid soybean curd & soybean curd.
  • Compressed soybean curd
  • Dehydrated soybean curd film
  • Tofu: This defines the product. Also, the standards regarding parameters – moisture, total ash, protein, fat, crude fiber, titratable acidity, Urease Index Value, of the product have been depicted here.

Also, the sub-regulation says about the permitted ingredients (basic & optional ingredients) for products covered under sub-clause (1) to (4). The standards on parameters – moisture, protein & Urease Index Value, to which products covered under sub-clause (1) to (4) must conform, are also depicted in the sub-regulation 2.4.30.
