FSSAI has published a letter dated 19th February 2021, providing instructions for all the laboratories on testing fortified foods. The DoFPD (Department of Food & Public Distribution), Government has launched a scheme to supply fortified rice to people in all the states and Union Territories. This scheme is aimed to address Anemia and other micro-nutrient deficiencies.
In this context, FSSAI has advised all NABL accredited Laboratories including State food testing Laboratories to include the parameters of fortificants / Micronutrients in their scope of testing.
FSSAI has instructed the Food testing laboratories to obtain NABL accreditation, at the earliest and also follow the units specified in the FSS regulations in respect to fortified foods.
