FSSAI Prohibits Blending in Mustard Oil

FSSAI had published a letter on 4th December 2020, stating Withdrawal of Prohibition of Blending in Mustard Oil. The regulator has recently published Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Third Amendment Regulations, 2021 which will come into effect on 8th June 2021. 

  • According to the amendment, the sale of any multi source edible vegetable oil containing mustard oil  manufactured on or after 8th June 2021 is prohibited.
  • Sale of Loose form of Multi Sourced Edible Vegetable Oil is prohibited and it can be sold only in tamper proof sealed packages weighing not more than 15 kilograms.
  • Any blended oil should be sold as Multi Sourced Edible Vegetable Oil, and not by the common name of the oil used in the blend.
  • Blended oils can be sold only with AGMARK certification mark along with other labeling requirements.
