World Food Safety Day 2021: Awareness, Activities & Giveaways
“Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow”
World Food Safety Day (WFSD) is celebrated on 7 June 2021 with an aim to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect, and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism, and sustainable development. This year’s theme, ‘Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow’, by WHO stresses that production and consumption of safe food have immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet, and the economy. Recognizing the systemic connections between the health of people, animals, plants, the environment, and the economy will help us meet the needs of the future. The idea of World Food Safety Day is to spread awareness about the topic, and we did our bit to spread the word to the world. To mark the day, we conducted various activities from the 5th of June to the 9th of June. The events were widely publicised through digital media and received wide coverage. We received an overwhelming response from the students as well as industry and participants from various universities across the nation participated in our events.
The following is a snapshot of the various activities that were conducted to mark the World Food Safety Day 2021.
Food Safety Quiz
The food safety quiz was conducted on the 7th of June and designed specifically for students. Questions ranged from general hygiene practices, hazards, regulations, and allergens. Over 70 students participated in the live online quiz administered through our Academy Portal. Evaluation was based on the correct answers and the time taken to complete the same and the winners for the quiz were.

The winners were announced during our monthly Food Safety Conversation held on the 9th of June. All the winners receive a certificate of merit and a T-shirt marking the World Food Safety Day. With the aim of sharing the knowledge across the board, the correct answer were also shared on our website. Next time you want to get a T-shirt like this, don’t forget to participate.
Free Basic Training on GMP/GHP in Manufacturing
A free FoSTac: Basic Food Manufacturing training was conducted on the 8th of June. Over 60 participants registered for the training. The training was delivered by Dr. Shashikanth Kunigal who is a Principal Consultant at Food Safety Works and has over 40 years of industry experience including head of corporate quality, Britannia, Heinz, and CII. Participants who attended and cleared the assessment were awarded certificates issued by FoSTaC (FSSAI). NXG Food Safety Works is a registered FoSTac training partner and the largest based out of Karnataka, India.
Daily Polls to engage the consumers
We conducted polls on our social media channels, namely, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram where a new poll question was shared every day from 5th June to 8th June and folks could pick the answers that they thought were most appropriate. Through this medium, we were able to engage with over 30,000 people who follow us on various channels. The poll questions and the results are available below for reference.
Clubhouse Discussion: “Safe food for a healthy tomorrow”:
Clubhouse is emerging as a new channel for engagement and discussion on topics that concern the society. So on World Food Safety Day, NXG Food Safety Works hosted their first clubhouse discussion on the topic “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow”. During the conversation we engaged with over 40 members for the discussion. We intend to take this forward and conduct weekly discussions on various hot topics related to latest regulatory updates from the industry. Food Safety Conversation: “Global Challenges in Food Safety and India Perspective”
Our grand finale was our Food Safety Conversation held on the 9th of June. The topic of discussion was “Global Challenges in Food Safety and India Perspective” talking about the topic were some eminent panelists from the academia, industry and regulatory that included

- Lalitha Gowda, Chairman, FSSAI Panel on Genetically Modified Foods
The conversation was hosted by Sarika Agarwal, Founder and Principal Consultant at Food Safety Works who has over 16 years of experience implementing Food Safety Management Systems. The event was conducted as a 90minutes webinar and broadcast live on our YouTube channel. The winners of the various contest that were organized, were announced at the end of the conversation.
