FSSAI prohibits blending of Mustard oil for the production of Multi – Sourced Edible Vegetable Oil (MSEVO) wef 08.06.2021.This is with reference to the earlier notification published on 8th March 2021.
As a result of this prohibition, the demand for pure mustard oil will increase as there will not be any blending of other oils to mustard oil. This will not only benefit the mustard growers but also the consumers.
To ensure that the prohibition is effectively enforced, FSSAI has asked the Commissioners of Food Safety of all States and UTs and Central Licensing Authorities to carry out inspection drives across all units that are licensed to manufacture MSEVO or Blended Edible Vegetable Oil (BEVO).
The regulator has also instructed the manufacturers of Mustard BEVO to amend their FSSAI License.
