Food Safety Works has always been committed to providing a 360-degree solution around food safety and ensuring product safety through its shelf life is critical. Equally critical is the process of determining the root cause of spoilage and what can be done to improve the same. Thus far we have relied on external labs to help us in this process. But there were a few issues we faced.
First off is the issue of the turnaround time, which tended to be too long. Added to that was the rigidity of the process where the test required had to be predetermined, quotes obtained, and samples submitted. We were also not very happy with the way the samples were handled during transit as well as the inconsistency in the report that we received. All of these are not desirable during product development when you are running against the clock. So last year we decided to setup a R&D lab for ourselves, and it feels great to share that our in-house lab was finally inaugurated on Saturday, 3rd of July.
With our lab we will be able to conduct all the basic tests like determining the moisture, total solids, PH, Brix, acidity and rancidity of the product. The microbial section will be able to test for yeast and mould, TPC, Coliform, E. Coli, Salmonella, S. Aureus and many other pathogens. The lab can also be used to test products across various categories, including dairy, cereals, oil and fats, fruits & vegetables, meat and fish as well as spice and condiments.
With this setup, we also hope to be able to help food startups and micro enterprises carry out their internal R&D which would otherwise have not been possible because of the lack of infrastructure. This also provides the missing link for incubating food startups where we can take them through the complete development of the product and take them all the way to launching the product in the market.
We are really excited by what this lab makes possible. So, if you would like to understand more on how we can help you, do drop us a note on our mail id lab@foodsafetyworks.in. If you have a requirement to come work in our lab do drop in and we will be able to help you get started.
