Sighting the findings published last month by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) that indicated harmful impacts from BPA exposure, a coalition of scientists, physicians and environmental groups is asking the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to restrict the use of the industrial chemical bisphenol A, known commonly as BPA.
Exposure to BPA in plastics that contact food can undermine the proper functioning of the immune and reproductive systems . This can occur at levels 100,000 times lower than previously assumed.
