Central Pollution Control Board issues direction for phasing out Single-Use Plastic (SUP)

On 1st February 2022, CPCB (Central Pollution Control Board) has issued a direction, with reference to notification by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, mandating ban of identified Single-Use Plastic (SUP) items and prescribed minimum thickness of carry bag with effect from July 01, 2022. CPCB has prepared a Comprehensive Action Plan to eliminate manufacture, stock, selling, import, and usage of SUP items, in timelines specified in the notification.

CPCB has given a list of directions to be executed directly by SCPBs/PCCs. The directions are for SUP manufacturers, plastic raw material manufacturers, E-commerce companies and other stakeholders. It also provides detailed directions for State Authorities, Local authorities, and other agencies/ organizations with an action plan for phasing out SUP.
