On 17th May 2022, FSSAI issued an order directing the Food Safety Authorities to check and verify compliance of labels of all admixtures of edible oil. As per the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, Multi-Source Edible Vegetable Oil (MEVO) shall not be sold under the common or generic name of the oil used in the blend, but shall be sold as Multi-Source Edible Vegetable Oil. Also, every package containing an admixture of edible oils shall carry a declaration immediately below its brand name/trade name in front of the pack regarding the name and nature of each edible vegetable oil used in its preparation and their percentage by weight. The FBOs may be issued notices in case of any violation of the labeling regulations.
