On 6th December 2022, FSSAI issued a letter regarding the seizure of food articles by the Food Safety Officers. It has been noted by the authority that FSOs seize food articles even in case of minor violations and without any reasonable grounds to believe that the food article is adulterated or unsafe and also carry out multiple sampling of the same lot in different pack sizes to reach sampling targets. Hence, Food Safety Officers and Designated Officers are requested to exercise their powers with due diligence and strictly adhere to procedural requirements of sampling and legal proceedings as stipulated under the FSS Act/ Rules.
