On 23rd January 2023, FSSAI issued a letter regarding misleading products in the market in the same name of Ghee/Butter. Certain products of non-dairy origin (i.e., blend or mixture of two or more edible oils/hydrogenated fats and nature-identical flavours) are being deceptively sold as Vegan ghee, by some FBOs in markets and e-commerce platforms. As per FSSAI regulations, these products cannot be claimed as Vegan foods and authorities are requested to check the labels of such products being manufactured and/or sold in their respective jurisdictions including online platforms and take enforcement actions on the concerned FBOs.
