On 12th January 2023, FSSAI issued an order regarding compliance with standards for Non-carbonated Water Based Beverages (Non-alcoholic) under Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives Regulations), 2011. As per the advisory, FBO’s were required to comply with the amended standard from 1st February 2022, onwards. The amendment has details regarding the standard of the water used in formulation, permitted ingredients & label name of the product. In this regard, the Regional Directors have been directed to review the products that are licensed under 14.1.4.2 – Non-carbonated Water Based Beverage (Non-alcoholic) and the non-compliant FBOs must either rectify the product formulation/labelling to conform to the regulatory provisions or discontinue the manufacturing of such products, failing which appropriate action may be initiated against them.
