On 23rd March 2023, Spices Board issued a circular regarding the mandatory sampling and testing of export consignments of Spices and Spice products. Based on the representation received from the exporters, the Board has fixed the MRL (Maximum Residue Limit) of Ethylene oxide in Spice mix products (Curry masalas, Curry gravy, RTE products, Pickles, Sauces, Chutney, etc.) to EU as 0.1 mg/kg. Further, for curry leaves (both fresh & dry) there is a requirement of Official certificate (Health Certificate) for pesticide residues. The amended details of the list of mandatory tests required for export of spice and spice products has been provided in this circular and the will be effective from 27.03.2023.
