A Talk to help Tribal FPOs understand food safety and licensing

Food Safety Works partnered with AIC CCRI CED (the Incubator of Coffee Board of India – https://aicccriced.in/) to deliver a talk to the Farmer Producer Organization being mentored by AIC CCRI CED. The talk was delivered by Ms. Sarika Agarwal, Founder and Principal Consultant to the Tribal FPOs spread across Karnataka who are being supported by NABARD and TRIFED.

A total of 12 FPOs are being financially supported by NABARD and TRIFED to the extent of about Rs.10 lakhs to establish Food Processing units. The talk was on the topic of food safety and licensing. This would guide these FPOs in understand the regulation, getting the license under the right category and also make them aware about the safety and hygiene protocols that the FPOs need to follow to deliver safe food to the customers while meeting all the packaging and labelling guidelines. The primary products that are being processed by these FPOs are as follows:

1) Cold Pressed Oil (Groundnut, coconut, etc)
2) Millet Processing (Dehusked and cleaned millet grains)
3) Redgram processing
4) Tamarind processing (Deseeded, dehusked and packed)
5) Coffee and Pepper

The talk was also be attended by the DDMs from NABARD and other FPOs. Who might be interested in understanding the same.

As a further extension of help to the FPOs, Food Safety Works will also help them registration on the FSSAI site, free of charge, taking only the charges levied by the government authority. We wish the FPOs all success and happy to be contributing towards making an ecosystem for safe food.
