On 15th February 2022, a stakeholders’ meeting was conducted by FSSAI to decide the issues related to ‘Front of Pack Labelling’. The Scientific Panel recommended thresholds for two categories, i.e. Food and Beverages, based on the prevalent global models, and IIM- Ahmedabad, based on its survey results, recommended Hygiene Star Rating (HSR) for better identification and understanding of labels compared to other models.
It was decided that the Scientific Panel shall share the recommendations to stakeholders, who may then provide their comments by 2nd March 2022. It was also decided that the HSR model and a 4 years period for voluntary implementation of FOPL may be incorporated into draft regulations and stakeholders may provide their comments on the same.
